Penrith firms combine for new website

One of the region’s leading plant hire companies is hoping for further growth after teaming up with a Cumbrian firm to launch a new website.

Based in Penrith, Metcalfe Plant Hire provide plant hire and construction operations, and have worked with another Penrith firm, Commendium, to provide their new site.

Les Balmer, Metcalfe Plant Hires’ finance director, commented on their website plans:
“We realised that we needed to renew and refresh our web presence and after talking to a number of web designers we decided that Commendium were in the best position to provide us with what we desired, not only were they locally based but they also gave us the confidence that they could provide the professional advice and web design services that we were looking for and at a reasonable cost, so it was win win scenario”

Mr Balmer also talked about working with Commendium: “We worked very closely with Commendium throughout the whole design process and the result is that we’ve got the modern and cutting edge website that we were looking for, and thanks to the training given to us by Commendium we can even undertake changes to the format & content of the website ourselves, something that was also very important to us.

And Mr Balmer stressed that the aim was to showcase the range of services the business provides: “We’re never going to sell through the website as it doesn’t suit our business. Nobody’s going to hire an excavator or such online.

“Our business involves a lot of negotiation so it’s about showing what we can offer and informing the customers.”

Metcalfe Plant Hire is best known as a construction industry plant hire and construction business, but within their core business portfolio they also offer road haulage, recycling and aggregates supply, and a training and driver assessment centre, thereby delivering an integrated service to both the construction and other industries.

They have established themselves as one of the leading firms not only in Cumbria but in the whole of the north, employing over a hundred staff, with a turnover of £12.8 million in the last financial year.

“Last year was a 16 per cent increase in turnover compared to the previous year, and we’ve carried that on with a good start to this year so there’s green shoots of growth, and that’s all the more reason to refresh the website.”
