Metcalfe Plant Hire is delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Morrison as its new Plant Hire Manager. Paul brings with him a wealth of experience from his 18 years in the plant hire industry, where he has gained a strong track record in business development, operational management, and equipment rental.
Having previously worked for Stevens Equipment Rental in Silloth, Paul’s career began in developing long-term contracts for large construction equipment, including Volvo dumptrucks and CAT, Liebherr and Volvo wheeled loading shovels. He then transitioned into general hire before progressing to operational management, where he played a pivotal role in growing the company from 34 machines to 170 and helping drive a turnover in excess of £15m.
Paul holds a degree in Agriculture from Newcastle University, and after a range of roles, including in the travel industry, he made his way into plant hire, a sector closely linked to his agricultural roots. His decision to move to Metcalfe Plant Hire represents his commitment to tackling new challenges and expanding his career with a dynamic and forward-thinking company.
Speaking on his new role, Paul commented:
“I’m here to make an impact. My goal is to continue building on the solid foundation Metcalfe Plant Hire has built over the last 50+ years, and I’m excited to explore new opportunities for growth and sustainability. I’m eager to connect with our clients, support our team, and actively work on expanding our reach, particularly in larger machines and contracts, to move the business forward.”
Paul’s role will include supporting the existing hire team, identifying new avenues for development, and bringing in business to help secure future growth. His focus will also be on representing Metcalfe’s strong reputation in the market and ensuring a proactive approach to business development. He’s particularly passionate about getting out and about, reconnecting with old contacts, and spreading the word about Metcalfe’s services.
Nigel Clegg, Plant Director at Metcalfe Plant Hire, shared his enthusiasm for Paul’s appointment, saying:
“We are thrilled to welcome Paul to our team. His experience, ambition, and proactive approach will be invaluable as we continue to grow and expand. We’re excited to see how Paul can build on the legacy of Metcalfe Plant Hire and help us achieve even greater success. His passion for meeting clients and developing new opportunities will be a fantastic addition to the team.”
Paul, who hails from Wigton and is actively involved with Wigton Rugby Club, brings a personal dedication to his work, alongside his passion for outdoor activities such as fell walking. His commitment to supporting his community aligns perfectly with Metcalfe Plant Hire’s strong values.
We are excited to have Paul on board and look forward to the positive impact he will have on the business in the coming years.
